Taking your PS3 to places it should never go and well beyond that
They are things that you should never do to a game console. Then there are things you shouldn’t do and expect it to survive. But that is just what PS3 Fanboy did and all I can say is wow. Essentially, they put the PS3 through a ridiculous set of trials to see if they could get it to stop working. More than any normal person would ever do, hopefully. Catch the highlights after the jump.First things first, please don’t try any of these yourselves, just don’t. Also, before you start stating the obvious about the site name, don’t forget that there is a 360 and Wii fanboy site and all three are run by the same people, Joystiq. So go ahead and kill the thought that the results are bias.Anyways, what they put the PS3 through will almost never happen in any household, but the results are pretty telling. The tests that were performed are:· In a standard living room, the PS3 was perfectly fine except for a strange noise coming from the disc tray after 12 hours. Nothing surprising there! · The PS3 was put in the back of a freezer van for the second test, where the temperature gradually went from 50 degrees to 0 degrees (Fahrenheit). When the temperature reached zero, the PS3 started to become sluggish and eventually, the screen blacked out. However, this was due to a power cord getting a bit too moist — the PS3 still worked fine. · Placing the PS3 in a hot sauna seems like a terrible idea — where the temperature went from 100 to 120 degrees Fahrenheit over time. After 64 hours, there was a slight burning smell and after 108 hours, the console was extremely hot (no, really?) but the console still worked fine after 108 hours. Now why they decided to do this is beyond me, but nevertheless, I can almost guarantee you that your 360 would have crapped out with just the mention of 108 hours not to mention the testing that would follow. The PS3 may be pricey, but damn is it built well. Now only if they could do something about getting screwed over by developers on the game side, we would be in business. You can read the full article here and make sure you click the link showing the full test information.
