Dave’s Journey With the RROD

Posted in Editorial by Dave on the August 13th, 2008

Yup, my 360 went and got the wonderful RROD yesterday.  I tried some suggested troubleshooting that I’ll be asked to do when I call it in this morning and it’s still completely hosed.  I’ve read horror stories about going through Microsoft to get a console repaired/replaced, so I’ve decided that I’d chronicle what happens.  I probably won’t call MS until tonight or tomorrow morning (since I don’t have the S/N right now), but I’ll keep everyone up to date on developments as they happen.

Mass Effect “Controversy” Picked Up By Fox News

Posted in Editorial by Dave on the January 22nd, 2008

Apparently, there are people in the media who think it’s been too long since an evil videogame that threatens our childhood and freedom has come out, so they decided to make up bogus BS and attribute it to Mass Effect.  We have a discussion going about this already on our boards, but now Fox News has picked up on bad journalism and now make Al Roker look like a candidate for the Edward R. Murrow award.  If you had no idea what Mass Effect was before watching this video, you might just think that it’s an interactive harlequin novel instead of an amazing gaming experience.

I do plan on sending Fox News an e-mail and I would encourage anyone else outraged by this to do the same.  I would just ask that you be articulate and make sense.  I’m sure they’ve already been swamped by more than enough “U guyz are teh sux0rs!” e-mails.  Anyway, watch and be horrified.  Thanks to Joystiq for putting this up.

Killing Yourself In Halo 3 Without Actually Killing Yourself

Posted in Editorial by Dave on the January 2nd, 2008

The only way you can do that is to hack someone else’s Live account to use their Recon armor and then pull off quite possibly the most impressive Halo 3 suicide ever recorded.  I can’t wait to see people try to top this one.

Oh My Goodness…

It’s really kind of hard to even say anything about this video, it pretty much speaks for itself.  All I can say is watch and enjoy the yuletide fun.

ACW/GCR Event Cancelled

Posted in Editorial by Dave on the August 31st, 2007

Unfortunately, due to a mixup with the city of Colorado Springs, the event has been classified as ultimate fighting or MMA (mixed martial arts), which means in short that the event can’t go off tonight as planned.  Brandon has full statement at the ACW site and gives instructions for ticketholders on what their options are.  Both the ACW and Game Crazy Radio apologize for this happening at the last minute, even though it was completely out of our control.  GCR will be at Cage Wars and we will have a helluva great time!

Paramount and DreamWorks Kick BluRay to the Curb

Posted in Editorial by Mike on the August 20th, 2007

Apparently, both studios have put BluRay production in a six-foot hole and will be putting out nothing but HD. What does that mean?

Yum, a 360 omelet

Posted in XBox 360 News, Editorial by Mo on the August 17th, 2007

Awhile back we saw the guy that modded his PS3 into a grill.  Well now let me introduce you to the 360 cook top.  And the best thing about it, no modding or experience needed.  All you need to do is open up your 360 and away you go.

Man, I am almost sure that tasted nasty.  And how do you sanitize your cooking environment?

Get your Wii crap, I mean accessories here

Posted in Nintendo Wii News, Editorial by Mo on the August 17th, 2007

So, innovation and the Wii almost go hand in hand right?  But you have to draw the line somewhere.  Along with the other useless attachments you can get for the Wii, ezGear has taken it one step further with “realistic” accessories for WiiSports.  Yes, you can now box, bat, swing, and golf like a pro or something.

You can now purchase from ezGear, Wii Boxing Gloves, Wii Sparing Gloves, and a Wii Sports Pack, all stating a realistic feel.  Sure, about as realistic as taking the skills you learn playing WiiSports into real life.  And how comfortable can it really be to have a WiiMote and Nunchuk clinging to the top of your clinched fist as you jab and swing.

Now only if they would come out with a weighted bowling ball attachment so you would have a real excuse for throwing your WiiMote at your TV.  You can only dream I guess.

Thanks to Joystiq for bringing life to this useless waste of space, time, and money.

Taking your PS3 to places it should never go and well beyond that

Posted in Playstation 3 News, Editorial by Mo on the August 17th, 2007

They are things that you should never do to a game console.  Then there are things you shouldn’t do and expect it to survive.  But that is just what PS3 Fanboy did and all I can say is wow.  Essentially, they put the PS3 through a ridiculous set of trials to see if they could get it to stop working.  More than any normal person would ever do, hopefully.  Catch the highlights after the jump. Rock Band bundle pricing and news

Posted in Playstation 3 News, XBox 360 News, Editorial by Mo on the August 17th, 2007

We have all heard the news regarding what is the real price for Rock Band and it’s peripherals, well it looks like we have a bit of news regarding the bundle.  The bundle is showing a price of $199 (no official price has been announced yet) and comes with a guitar, drums, and a mic.  And this is where it gets interesting.  An article on Joystiq, it is revealed that the 360 bundle will have a wired guitar, while the PS3 version will include a wireless guitar for the same price.  It is also to be noted that the extra guitar for the PS3 is only listed @ $59.99 while the 360 is listed for $79.99.  What all this means and the actual final pricing is yet to be seen, but definitely makes the PS3 version more desirable to me right now.

Game Crazy in Financial Trouble? Yes and No

Posted in Editorial by Dave on the August 17th, 2007

Joystiq put up a story today about Game Crazy’s parent company, Movie Gallery, having trouble paying off debts it took on in buying Hollywood Video and Game Crazy.  The question that immediately comes to mind is “Does that mean that Game Crazy is going away or being sold to a competitor?”

That’s why we’re here.  Let’s get full disclosure out of the wayup front.  We all work for Game Crazy, be it full time or part time.  We do the show and write for the site because we dig games and love talking about them and we like Game Crazy.  We also are pretty happy to be unofficial because it definitely means that we can speak our minds, and I’m about to speak mine.  Please note that these opinions are mine and mine alone.

RROD Video

Posted in XBox 360 News, Editorial by Mo on the August 17th, 2007

So, most of us have experienced the joy of your 360 taking a little peaceful nap in the middle of gaming.  Unfortunately, there are those who have experienced it a bit more than others.  Have no fear, G4 is here.  Well, not exactly, but they did make a pretty hilarious video about it.  Enter the band Distended Warranty and there new single “Red Ring of Death”.  Hey, you got to have fun with this crap somehow, otherwise, you just end up throwing you 360 through something and maybe someone at the same time.  For whatever reason, their embed code isn’t working, so I am just going to post the link directly to it.  Enjoy.

Sony Announces Availibilty of 80 Gig PS3

Posted in Playstation 3 News, Editorial by Mike on the August 8th, 2007

Sony Computer Entertainment America announced the availibility of the new 80 gig PS3 at online and brick&mortar stores. For all you millions of Sonytes who need 20 more gig and Motorstorm rather than $100 off, I suppose this is great news. (more…)

PS3 DVR in near future

Posted in Playstation 3 News, Editorial by Mo on the August 1st, 2007

According to Joystiq and The Press, PS3 will be going DVR like as early as March of next year.  This will coincide with the launch of Freeview broadcasting service.  This news comes from an interview with Warwick Light (head of marketing for SCE in New Zealand).  You can also read the actual interview on The Press link above.  It has some interesting tidbits in it.  After reading it, it kind of takes the gripe out of the US PS3 price when you read what people in New Zealand are paying for it.  I won’t spoil the surprise, but a surprise it will be.  Go on, I will take a sec for you to read the article and then pick your mouth up off the floor.  (more…)

Disney’s E3 Conference Makes Kennedy Look Legit

Posted in Editorial, Game News by Dave on the July 25th, 2007

Thanks (or curses) to Joystiq for putting up the GameTrailers video of the Disney press conference at E3 that makes Jamie Kennedy’s Activision fiasco look like the funniest thing of the year.  The following video actually hurts and may cause convulsions.  I seriously would have walked out of this if I had to actually sit through it.  Disney owes the members of the press at this monstrosity an all-expenses paid trip to a Disney park for enduring this garbage.

Jamie Kennedy Dying Like Pee-Wee in Buffy at E3

Posted in Editorial by Dave on the July 19th, 2007

Sometimes, I’m just glad that we’re the new kids on the block because I don’t know what I would have done if I was actually at this event.  I really liked Jamie Kennedy in Scream, but he’s gone downhill in my opinion and this was just downright pathetic.  I hope the news comes out that he was just stinking drunk at this thing because if this is him sober?  Wow…All I know is that Activision should be getting a refund for how bad this went.  Thanks to GameTrailers.com for putting up this jewel.  Now, if only we could get something from the supposedly suicidal Disney conference, I’d feel like I had been there.

Halo 3 Without Online Co-Op?

Posted in XBox 360 News, Editorial by Dave on the July 18th, 2007

In this day and age of gaming, the hardcore gamer really puts up a stink if a game doesn’t have online co-op and the storyline allows for it.  Personally?  I think it’s fair to expect.  On the 360, you can play Gears of War, Call of Duty, Rainbow Six Vegas online in a co-op capacity with one or more of your friends.  So why should Halo 3 be any different?

Show Us Your Madden

Posted in Playstation 3 News, XBox 360 News, Editorial, Game News by Mo on the July 17th, 2007

So, we all know Madden 08 is just around corner due out August 14th and of course it is going to be huge, but this year, EA has taken it to a whole new level. (For PS3 and 360 that is).  There is a special unlock able “Ring of a Champion” which you can order and wear proudly.  The ring is courtesy of Jostens (who has made 27 out of the 41 Super Bowl Championship rings and probably your graduation ring also) and will come in two (initial) prices based upon chepo or non-precious for $149 and a 10K ring for $495.  Now if you have really lost your mind and have some extra money sitting around, you can add real diamonds to your ring for that extra added “Bling”.  The ring will be more customizable depending upon how far you progress in the game.  The further you go the more flamboyant and obnoxious you can potentially be.  You can read more at EA Sports and Joystiq.
