E3 News: Netflix Content To Be Available On XBox Live!

Posted in XBox 360 News, Game News by Dave on the July 14th, 2008

netlive.JPG

Well, Microsoft just finished their E3 conference, and it was a doozy.  I’ve got a couple of articles to put up, but I’ll start with the story that has me the most excited.  First reported at Major Nelson’s Twitter page and followed by a post over at XBox 360 Fanboy, speculation has finally ceased.  The official announcement came that Netflix is partnering with Microsoft to bring content to XBox Live.

The only details that have come out are that you need both an XBox Live account and a Netflix account.  The actual viewing service will be a free extension.  What isn’t clear is if you need a Gold account, or if a Silver will get you buy.  My guess would be that you need to go Gold.  I would also imagine that you’ll need a hard drive for the buffering of the video.

Still, there are a ton of people on XBox Live who have Netflix accounts and this will be a beautiful thing.  I’m running on a home theater PC that goes out to my tv, but this would get much better video quality.  It really will help me get the most out of my Netflix subscription!

Unfounded Rumor: GoldenEye To XBLA?

Posted in Game News by Dave on the January 9th, 2008

I don’t think we’ve posted any rumors yet, but this is just too interesting to ignore.  Joystiq is reporting (via Xbox Evolved) that the N64 classic is supposedly coming to the XBox Live Arcade shortly before Activision releases their next 007 game.  They say that an agreement has come between Microsoft, Rareware, MGM Studios and Activision, which would apparently clear the way for this to happen.  The only question is if Nintendo is part of the equation.  GoldenEye was exclusive to the N64, but that wouldn’t matter if they weren’t the publisher.

GoldenEye really does deserve a place in history as a forefather of console FPS like Doom and Pathways Into Darkness are for PC FPS gaming.  However, the question has to be how well it will hold up.  They probably will update the graphics some, but I have fewer happy gaming memories than playing paintball, painting “HI!” on the wall you can hide behind and wasting your poor friend who’s having fun appreciating your work.

I probably won’t be picking this up, but I can only hope it does obscenely good business in order to get the one game everyone actually wants from the Rare library on XBLA, and that would be Killer Instinct.  I picked up Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 and it’s a beautiful port of the arcade game.  I would be happy as happy could be if I could Ultimate combo Saberwolf off the top of the building with Orchid in all its arcade quality glory.

Fire Up the REM: Duke Nukem Forever Trailer To Debut Tomorrow

Posted in Game News by Dave on the December 18th, 2007

It’s been a long held belief amongst gamers that the final sign of the apolcolypse would be the release of eternally delayed Duke Nukem Forever.  Apparently, it is truly the end of the world as we know it because Kotaku is reporting that a teaser trailer for this game is actually going online tomorrow.  Personally?  I don’t particularly feel fine about this.

Seriously, playing Duke Nukem is a joke these days, and I have serious doubts about 3D Realms being able to update the character and the game so it’s actually relevant.  What made Duke cool in the first place was his cool one liners.  Well, now EVERYBODY has seen Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness.  Bruce Campbell has become a cult star.  The jig’s up on this series, so they’re going to have to come up with new tricks.  It will be interesting to see if 3D Realms can pull this one off.

Aqua Teen Freaking Hunger Force

Posted in Playstation 2 News, Game News by Mo on the August 1st, 2007

Fans of Aqua Teen rejoice.  Midway has teamed up with Adult Swim to create an Aqua Teen game called, (get ready for this) “Aqua Teen Hunger Force Zombie Ninja Pro Am”.  Those fans of the show should in no way be surprised by the name and in the case of the trailer, the complete lack of Ninjas.  It looks like this game can actually be pretty good.  You got some golf cart racing, a little golf, and just some plain good ol’ a** whopping action.  Let’s see it the game causes an interesting reaction like the marketing for the movie.  You can catch the trailer in all its glory after the jump. 360 Price drop (and a free game)

Posted in XBox 360 News, Game News, Game Crazy Deals by Mo on the August 1st, 2007

Ok, so this has been in speculation for a while now, but it seems pretty well confirmed.  In a couple of ads, the 360 is being shown with a nice little price drop right around the time Madden 08 releases.  This comes from ads posted on Joystiq (good ole Joystiq) and also CheapAssGamer (you have to register on log-in to view the post on it).  If you remember, it was CAG that first exposed the PS3 price drop (yeah, that’s what it was, a price drop), so this is pretty big.  The ads shown are from Circuit City (which, by the way, shows the drop on ALL 360 systems), Wal-Mart, and Toys-R-Us.  One thing that makes this interesting is it now brings the Core 360 well within Wii range which could give people something to think about.  The Circuit City ad also shows that you get Rockstar’s Table Tennis for free with the purchase.  Pretty tempting, but I must point out that we do match at Game Crazy and you also get 12 free rentals when you purchase a system from us (just don’t forget the ad).  Shameless plug, I know, but you get them in when you can.

See, just like I said, once I open my mouth, Microsoft does a price drop on the 360 and the HD.  Maybe I should do some articles about a Lexus or something.

Looks Like I Am Keeping MY Halo 3 Pre-Order Afterall

Posted in XBox 360 News, Game News by Mike on the August 1st, 2007

So, remember how it was first reported that there would be no online co-op in Halo 3? Well, now Bungie is saying yes there will be. Maybe they heard our show and we made them realize the error of their ways… but more likely it was the millions of pissed off gamers.

Disney’s E3 Conference Makes Kennedy Look Legit

Posted in Editorial, Game News by Dave on the July 25th, 2007

Thanks (or curses) to Joystiq for putting up the GameTrailers video of the Disney press conference at E3 that makes Jamie Kennedy’s Activision fiasco look like the funniest thing of the year.  The following video actually hurts and may cause convulsions.  I seriously would have walked out of this if I had to actually sit through it.  Disney owes the members of the press at this monstrosity an all-expenses paid trip to a Disney park for enduring this garbage.

Heavenly Sword Trilogy

Posted in Playstation 3 News, Game News by Mo on the July 24th, 2007

This makes me happy.  AMN had the chance to conduct an interview with Tam Antoniades of Ninja Theory.  During the interview, he stated that Heavenly Sword is planned as a trilogy.  Apparently, part two is already written and has been for a while now.  You can hear the entire interview at PS3 Advance Media Network.

Show Us Your Madden

Posted in Playstation 3 News, XBox 360 News, Editorial, Game News by Mo on the July 17th, 2007

So, we all know Madden 08 is just around corner due out August 14th and of course it is going to be huge, but this year, EA has taken it to a whole new level. (For PS3 and 360 that is).  There is a special unlock able “Ring of a Champion” which you can order and wear proudly.  The ring is courtesy of Jostens (who has made 27 out of the 41 Super Bowl Championship rings and probably your graduation ring also) and will come in two (initial) prices based upon chepo or non-precious for $149 and a 10K ring for $495.  Now if you have really lost your mind and have some extra money sitting around, you can add real diamonds to your ring for that extra added “Bling”.  The ring will be more customizable depending upon how far you progress in the game.  The further you go the more flamboyant and obnoxious you can potentially be.  You can read more at EA Sports and Joystiq.

XBox Live Arcade News Galore

Posted in XBox 360 News, Game News by Dave on the July 12th, 2007

Surprisingly, there has been quite a bit of news coming out of E3 this week.  I know a lot of people expected that since E3 scaled back, there wouldn’t be much happening.  I think it’s been true in terms of the smaller companies coming, but the big boys seem to be breaking out the big guns.  This article is about all the goodies coming to the XBox Live Arcade and one notable steaming turd.

Mo Looks at the Nintendo E3 News

Posted in Editorial, Game News by Mo on the July 11th, 2007

So Dave has asked me to write an article about Nintendo at E3 so far.  Why, you may ask?  Because I am pretty close to getting rid of my Wii due to the lack of compelling games and also the game play of a good bit of them that I have tried.  So I was very excited about what Nintendo was going to reveal at E3. (Glimmer of hope).   Read on after the jump.

MGS4 Exclusiveness in Jeopardy

Posted in Game News by Mo on the July 10th, 2007

Despite Sony dropping the price of the PS3 by $100, some gaming companies are still on the fence of holding exclusive titles to Sony. The one up for question now (officially) is Metal Gear Solid 4. I along with plenty of other people should have seen this one coming. There have been talks about it for some time now. The price drop I believe should help, but according to an interview by Konami’s head of North American and European operations, Kazumi Kitaue, not so much.

In a interview with Reuters, Kazumi Kitaue stated, “I wonder if Sony can win back user support by the price cut of just $100,” he also added, “I don’t expect a substantial impact … With $500, you can buy a personal computer.” From this, I can only gather that Kitaue and the rest of the world would like to see a cheaper PS3, but it probably isn’t feasible from a production to cost standpoint. Even though Sony has worked really hard to include next gen and cutting edge technology in the PS3, that is one of the reasons for the price and now they are losing even more money but cutting it. By including a Blu-Ray player and an expansive processing chip, it has greatly increased production cost of the PS3. Not to mention the lack of titles right now, which is to be expected for a new system. According to Kitaue, Konami may need to expand its audience to different hardware support to recoup its development costs for the game. As of yet, Metal Gear Solid has been Playstation’s baby and it would be nice to see it stay that way.

“Since Metal Gear Solid was born for the PlayStation, we would like to keep it a PlayStation game. But we might have to take some steps,” Kitaue said.

Maybe after reading Joystiq, Kitaue may change his mind. The price drop on the PS3 has driven sales up 2,700% on Amazon over the past couple of days. I hope Sony is sending this info onto Konami and all the other of its developers it is trying to hold exclusive titles with.

Gamespot’s Quake Wars Interview

Posted in Game News by Dave on the July 10th, 2007

I have to be honest.  When I heard a new Quake game was coming out, I was less than enthusiastic.  We’ve now seen four Quake games and while they are fun, I think it’s pretty safe to say that they’ve become a bit old hat.  Then I came across this interview that Gamespot posted yesterday with the developers of Quake Wars and suddenly I went from *YAWN* to psyched in around 3 minutes.  Hit the jump to see the interview and my reaction from it.
